Whacked Out Paula Abdul Explains Broken Nose

Auto Date Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Why does it seem like everytime Paula Abdul is on camera, she’s off in another layer of the atmosphere? Including when the camera hits her on American Idol and it’s her turn to talk, she’s always so loopy. Check out this video from VH1 where she is asked about her recent nose breaking, chihuahua saving episode:

Golfer dies after cart plunges off cliff

Auto Date Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Here’s a fairly sad story that reminds me of a scene from one of those zany 80’s comedies starring Leslie Nielson. A 65 year old man forgot which pedal was the brake and which was the gas as he lost control of his golf cart and plummeted off of a 75 ft cliff to his death. A quote from the news piece:

The vehicle veered off the concrete pathway, traveled down a 25-foot embankment and went over the edge of the cliff, California Highway Patrol spokesman Tom Kerns said.

The victim, a recently retired real estate agent from Irvine, was ejected shortly before the cart hit the road beneath the cliff and died on impact, Kerns said. His name was not immediately released.

“Ejected shortly before the cart hit the road”, does that mean he tried to jump out? Either way, be careful out there, old folks. Gas on the right, brake on the left. Full news article here.

Best Visual Illusion of 2007 (So Far..)

Auto Date Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

From ScienceBlogs.com comes this cool illusion featuring the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The quote below is from the source explaining how and why the optical illusion works.

Here is a novel illusion that is as striking as it is simple. The two images of the Leaning Tower of Pisa are identical, yet one has the impression that the tower on the right leans more, as if photographed from a different angle. The reason for this is because the visual system treats the two images as if part of a single scene. Normally, if two adjacent towers rise at the same angle, their image outlines converge as they recede from view due to perspective, and this is taken into account by the visual system. So when confronted with two towers whose corresponding outlines are parallel, the visual system assumes they must be diverging as they rise from view, and this is what we see. The illusion is not restricted to towers photographed from below, but works well with other scenes, such as railway tracks receding into the distance. What this illusion reveals is less to do with perspective, but how the visual system tends to treat two side-by-side images as if part of the same scene. However hard we try to think of the two photographs of the Leaning Tower as separate, albeit identical images of the same object, our visual system regards them as the ‘Twin Towers of Pisa’, whose perspective can only be interpreted in terms of one tower leaning more than the other.

When I first looked at the pictures, I thought the tower to the right leaned a bit more. Interesting illusion!

Scott Stapp’s Domestic Violence Rap

Auto Date Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Scott Stapp, lead singer of the horrible, horrible band Creed is in trouble with the law for assaulting his wife after a long night of partying it up. I always thought those Creed guys were good Christian boys too.. Check the quote below from the article:

According to a sheriff spokesman, Stapp returned to his residence about 8 a.m. after a long night of partying and was confronted by his wife, former Miss New York USA 2004 Jaclyn Nesheiwat, who began quizzing him on where he’d been. At that point, the Human Clay singer became defensive and the couple started arguing.

“He got angrier and allegedly threw a glass bottle of Orangina, almost hitting her in the right side of her face,” sheriff spokesman Paul Miller tells E! Online. “She was in fear at that point that he might do something else, so that’s when Palm Beach County deputies were called to the scene.”

No one was injured in the incident. Miller said deputies corroborated Nesheiwat’s account and that the 33-year-old rock star was “deceptive” when they questioned him about throwing the bottle.

Stapp was taken into custody and charged with one count of assault with intent to commit a felony. He was held overnight without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail before appearing in court this morning.

Here’s a pic of Stapp and his beautiful wife:

Pac Man’s Skull

Auto Date Monday, May 21st, 2007

Half creepy, half cool, check out Pac Man’s skull as seen below thanks to SlashGear.com. A quote from the article gives us a bit of insight as to who made the creation and what it is made of:

“The Pac-Man skeleton was created by Le Gentil Garcon with help from paleontologist Francois Escuilie in 2002. They created it by observing the human skull and different predatory animal skulls.

It is 35cm in diameter and made of plaster. The artist has several works, all equally odd, but interesting nonetheless.”

I’ll bet he uses the incisors to chomp through ghosts and the molars for the power pellets.

John Rambo Trailer

I haven’t seen a movie this over the top and gory in quite some time. Check out the trailer for John Rambo by clicking below and watch Stallone rip out throats, slice abdomens open, machine gun obliterate bad guys in the front end of jeeps, shoot a few bow and arrows, jump out of exploding buildings, and much, much more. While a bit different than First Blood (Rambo 1), it looking like about the more fun movie since Commando.
