Here is a video from the MN Dept. of Transportation (DOT) that shows the view from the lock north of the bridge on the downtown (south) side near Washington Avenue, looking north. The bridge "let go" just out of camera view (your right) and appears to fall nearly straight down. You can see the other end bending before it breaks. Notice the few cars on the deck also. Normally, this would be jam packed, and theoretically, there could have been hundreds of cars instead of dozens.
